ALL THINGS CAN BE MADE NEW

RENEW: to make new, fresh, or strong again; to restore to existence; to begin again.

There comes a time when help is needed from a mental health professional to cope with many of life’s challenges.

At Renewed Counseling & Play Therapy, children, adolescents, parents, and adults receive the ongoing support they need to be renewed.

COVID-19: We offer in-person or telehealth sessions. All of our clinicians are fully vaccinated and happy to wear masks upon request.

AMY R. WORK, LCMHC, RPT

I believe that every individual has inherent value, and that life is to be fully experienced and enjoyed. Too often, the stresses and traumas of life prevent us from stepping into who we really want to be.  It's my passion to come alongside kids, teens, and adults, and support them in the journey towards peace and health.

My therapeutic approach begins from a client-centered perspective, which addresses the unique needs of each person. From there, I primarily work from a cognitive-behavioral framework which asserts that identifying and changing harmful thought patterns can lead to reduced emotional distress and a more satisfying life. I am also trained to incorporate EMDR, DBT Skills, and Sand Tray Therapy as needed. In working with children, I use Child-Centered Play Therapy to help children process trauma, express and regulate emotions, build confidence, and develop social skills.  We will work together to design a treatment plan that is right for you. Click here to learn more about the clinical issues I address.

The letters after my name (above) stand for Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), and Registered Play Therapist (RPT). I hold a Masters Degree in Christian Counseling from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Charlotte, NC.  I also earned Bachelors Degrees in Psychology and Sociology from The University of Georgia, as well as a minor in Child and Family Development. I am an active member of the American Counseling Association and the Association for Play Therapy, and I continuously pursue up-to-date training on evidence-based mental health treatments.

Prior to becoming a counselor, I worked as a high school teacher and enjoyed adapting my classroom for students with specific behavioral, emotional, or academic needs. Additionally I served as the Elementary Children's Director at my church.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and son, running, trying new recipes, drinking coffee, and all things Harry Potter.

CLINICAL MENTAL HEALTH INTERNS

Renewed Counseling & Play Therapy is pleased to offer reduced fee services to clients through our Clinical Mental Health Internship Program. Our interns are currently pursuing their Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and are trained to offer high-quality and evidence-based care. Because they are not yet licensed, they offer counseling sessions at a reduced fee of $30. All interns are supervised directly by Amy R. Work, LCMHC, RPT. KRISTEN KAVELOH

I strive to create an environment of acceptance and compassion where each person’s unique strengths and needs can be explored and nurtured. My goal is to help clients process their experiences, thoughts, and emotions in a way that leads to a deeper self-awareness and a greater confidence in navigating the joys and struggles of life.

I plan to graduate with my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in October 2022 from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Prior to moving to the east coast to pursue counseling, I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Family Studies and Human Development from the University of Arizona. I then worked as a teacher and school administrator at an inclusion school where we focused on meeting the individual needs of all students, including those with disabilities. I also served as a youth coach in ministry, providing support and mentorship for middle and high school students.

In my free time, I love spending time with friends and family, reading, exploring new places with my dogs, and the occasional marathon of a great TV show.
